The Acrostics Series: BornBlitzedHello, and welcome to The Acrostics Series, which gives notables from around the lit community the opportunity both to sum themselves up in an acrostic of their username and to pretend they're back in the third grade!
Next up we have `HaveTales-WillTell, who got his tick in the latest round of senior announcements and looks very fancy with it on. He's been in the deviantART business five years now, and for all you trivia bods out there, he's a big fan of duckpin bowling (which is apparently way less cruel to animals than I initially thought). He joins us now live from the Grave Accent On Your Head Sartorial Convention, and his acrostic goes something like:

Demonstrably Deviant: Issue VAbout
Sometimes we meet members of DeviantART who are just plain cool. They leave critique, they make great art or write great stories, they participate in groups and are generally just active and fun to be around. They also don't get any attention because being cool means you don't need attention to keep being cool. Be A Hero, Report a Miscat!
Miscats: What are they? Why do they matter? How do they happen?
A "miscat" is a deviation that has been submitted to the wrong gallery, or mis-categorized, on deviantART. For example, literature does not belong in the photography gallery, even if there is a photograph supplied as a preview picture for the writing.
They matter for several reasons. Miscats make searching for specific types of deviations tedious, particularly if you are looking for newer submissions. A search of the Writing Tutorials gallery for popular deviations in the last 24 hours brought up four deviations, all miscats. Miscats also make the site disorganized and even harder to navigate for new comers. Lastly, they make your work harder to reach by taking up space in the wrong gallery.
I'm sure others can think of reasons why miscats are annoying, and I invite you to leave comments here discussing it!

A thank you to everyone who attended the chat event! Our unofficial Word Wars produced 2,919 total words. =icefire8521 led the pack with a grand total of 17 words and ^Beccalicious pulled a close second by cheating with copy and paste for the third round. I love dA's lit community because it is filled with kind, good-humoured, knowledgeable and supportive people from all over the world, who are passionate about their craft. It seems that dA attracts the most talented amateur writers out there, meaning that there is a lot of wonderf
Breaking in to Lit!Introduction
Literature has long been considered one of the closest knit communities on deviantART. As a result, some people find it difficult to "break in" to the Lit crowd. There are rumors of elitism, difficulty in getting exposure, and lack-luster appreciation for the incredible work that goes into writing a good piece of prose or a well structured poem.
If you look at a painting you can see amazing detail, great use of color, and the importance of the subject immediately. You know it came from the artist's imagination and that he or she had to spend hours translating that to a canvas. The tangibility of the work is right in front of you. With writing, it is not quite the same. The effort the author puts into the work can only be appreciated if readers put in their own effort to read the work. The gratification is not instant, which is one reason the lit community is so close knit.

Seniority Announcement - December 2011This article marks the latest announcements detailing the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 800 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.

So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.

Communal Karma #2Communal Karma
Hello there and welcome to the second edition of Communal Karma.
In the Communal Karma series I highlight the devious little squirrels who have suggested literature DD's in the past month. To do this I will collect the names of the suggesters from the past months DD's. I am aware, of course, that many other deviations are being suggested to our lovely and all powerful overlords but I don't have access to those!
The point of this feature is to make those who support the literature community get seen themselves, a karmic reward for doing good and expecting nothing in return. It might also encourage more people to suggest incredible literature for the site-wide feature, which is also great because it means that the CV's will have eyes and ears all over the site finding amazing unseen gems to share with the rest of us.
Suggesting a Daily Deviation is a very kind thing to do. It doesn't happen at the click of a button and these people made conscious decisions
There is no 'Lit Community'There's just you.
You, a person who happens to have words in your head and, sometimes, they spill out into a notebook or a Word document and then eventually end up on the Internet. Hell, there's a lot of you. English doesn't differentiate between the singular and the plural, which means that this paragraph is both about individuals and about a lot of people.
Every so often I see people complain that the "lit community" is elitist, that everyone's an insular jerk, the crits are unfairly harsh, so on and so forth.
And I'm like, WTF is this.
Are you talking about the group with over 7000 members where the admins work their butts off to feature stellar members and provide prompts and encouragement every week even though almost no one responds and just thinks of them as one of the 200+ groups they submit their latest piece to?

Great critique and great writing go very closely together. All of us feature great writing— whether it's through fav'ing them, commenting on them or telling others about them. Critiques, however, are under-appreciated. Have we really featured them? Here are some wonderful critics. I will be showcasing one amazing critique and one wonderful piece of writing from each of them. 
More attention should be given to critiques. Read them well and they are likely to be even more useful that guides; guides are often generalized so that they are useful to the majority. Referring to examples is one of the best ways to improve your own writing. No two pieces of writing are entirely different. Your horror masterpiece and that love poem critiqued may actually have the same area for improvement— word choice? clarity? A critique is always useful.

Alicia is a long-time deviant, known for her kick-ass tenure as a volunteer and as founder of #Texasdevmeet. As much a go-to person as you'll ever meet, she poured her heart, soul and love into this community; thereby helping to shape the LIT community into what it is today.

:iconhavetales-willtell: What strikes me about `StJoan is how approachable she was during her tenure as a Literature CV. When I'd first joined the site in 2006, the lit community was a bit more insular and a lot more defensive; they were fighting against a general perception that words were somehow less artistic than drawings and photos, and were less appreciated as a result.

Alicia was one of the first to change that: by welcoming everyone into the fold, by seeing that lit DDs were once again featured on a regular basis, and by putting together contests and prompts such as 'Gourmet Lit'.

Even now, with her time online far more limited, she still has the community's back. For instance, when Sta.sh Writer was launched last year to underwhelming fanfare, she campaigned directly to +spyed about what its shortcomings were, and why such things mattered. Partly as a result of that, the version we have available for use today is far more reliable and robust.
