Hello and welcome to the seventh issue of Writers With a Promise.

:bulletgreen: There are a lot of very talented writers here on dA who (rightfully so) are often featured in journals and news articles. However, the idea behind this article is to promote the many writers who have shown they have the potential to reach that same level, and therefor might benefit from the support and encouragement this generous community has to offer.

Two Kings.21 years ago
    We were on fire.
Ten weeks of heartbeats/ three years of sexual tension
(hand brushing, eye catching, leg touching-)
Combusting
     into 5 minutes
Of romantic color-blindness.
                        Your mouth was law.
                          We were two kings.
Tangled, desperate-
                 Cheeks flushed, Lips locked.
                                 &
Dear Baby Blues: An Ode.You never understood the appeal of ugly Christmas sweaters,
And that alone should have tipped me off.
We were less than soul sisters –
Your forever-ago-forget-me-not promises unraveled like a worn scarf.
And I couldn't cry in front of you.
Could never come to you,
while you wept against a cold Holiday sink -
Bathroom door festive and snapped closed.
You,
Always hiding away and wishing me away,
Because we weren't blessed with boomerang love.
A love that came back -
singed our cheeks with speed heat
And for hours we would sit in your front yard,
Picking at scabs with sticks and nails,
mixing our blood,
Coaxing our hearts to shift a way they never would
I blamed you for my bites. blue lips.
My sharp, canine aggression.
And when the snow comes this year,
I will lay in it
and blame my cold on you.
Olive Oil.The night before the bomb dropped we tied balloons around our necks.
I popped three of yours and neither of us went anywhere.
Now, there are footsteps and my heart beats, too.
(But I can never tell which is because of you.)
And I ache.
in all the right places,
feeling good pain where my skull settles
I unfurl like a scarf sashaying off its hanger.
Then
One.
an explosion in the dark-
Two
There's a man who makes my eyes blue.
My hands; blue.
And I
hold
him
hostage.
Tie his hair back with strands of mine. Close his eyes under my lids.
And drink up all his go

She's The Girl 2.0i.
She was the girl who ran in circles because geometry had taken hold of her mind ever since she had missed the parallel lines in the middle of the road and crashed into an oncoming car. It's been 3 years since the accident and you can still see the scars on her side from where they had to remove the splintered fragments of her ribs and a piece of her ruptured spleen. They say she's lucky to be alive but she'll just tell you she's lucky to have passed geometry.

She was the girl who would listen to the same song on repeat for hours because she didn't like change and found comfort in the fact that she knew what was coming next. One day her iPod died and she felt more lost than ever, even more than the time she wandered through her neighborhood in the dark for hours. It got to the point where she sat huddled on a street corner until light broke the horizon and some old man walking his dog startled her as he raced by. The only thing she remembers is his wry smile and slight flick of h
Carter Gave Me SightCarter –He's 3 years old and turns 4 in February. He recently started complaining about poor vision and pain in his right eye. He told his mom, "Mommy, Scooby-Doo is all blurry. Why is he all blurry?"
His mom figured the television wasn't working properly or maybe it wasn't in high-definition but there didn't seem to be a problem at all; except her son was losing his eye-sight and she was losing faith and they were both losing time. She quickly wiped away her tears with the ends of her sleeves and told Carter, "He's blurry because he doesn't feel well today, baby. He just needs some rest and then he will be ok. Try turning the television off so he can go to bed."
Carter turned the television off with a slight smile and high hopes for Scooby's return to form, while his mother dashed to the phone and called the doctor to voice her concerns. They set up an appointment for the following morning and told Carter it was just a check-up because she didn't want to worry him. He probably wo
Shes The Girl Nobody Noticesi.
She was the girl with the burnt orange skin and blonde highlights. Her skin emitted UV rays from too many trips to the tanning bed and she changed her hair color more often than the calendar changed months. She only wanted to fit in but it just made her stand out even more.
ii.
She was the girl who would always use cherry lip-balm because she knew it was his favorite flavor. Her kisses made his knees weak and her will power too so one kiss would turn to two, three, and four. Then a week later she was pregnant and everyone was calling her a whore.
iii.
She was the girl with wings made of scotch-tape and printer paper. She tried to fly when she was 7 but she ended up just falling off the roof and breaking her collarbone and right arm. Her wings were torn to shreds and so were her hopes of becoming somebody's angel. She swears she will find better material and a more suitable launching pad and one day she will flutter instead of crash into the floor.
iv.
She was the girl who had always

Math and PoetryShe used to tell me
of math and poetry
by the length of her arm
and rhythm of her heart
condensing verse and fraction
with form following the function
of communist theories
and greek philosophies.
she beat out aesthetics
with a perfect symmetry.
because no one understands
the relationship between
seafoam and shoreline
the way she does
[swimming in saltwater sorrows]
reimagining time in an hourglass,
she shot up infinities with a glance
and left me moondrunk in the night.
she emits sparks throughout my system
breaking and entering--
my kingdom under siege.
her name was an amalgam of numbers
1.61803399 . . . .
and I loved her by design.

I don't really know what your criteria is, but I would like to recommend ~Tinker-domi for a possible feature? She's such a great writer, and gets very little recognition for it. Her ideas are original and well thought out, her characters lively and her dialogue believable. (: I hope you'll have a lookie if you can! In the meantime, I'm looking forward to checkig out the deviants already listed! xx
